Arges Gorge

Arges Gorges are formed along the river with the same name and run downstream of Vidraru Dam, over 2.5 km in length, up to the village of Capataneni.

The Lake and Dam Vidraru

The construction works for the Vidraru dam and hydroelectric power station started in 1960, they were completed after five and a half years, the commissioning took place in 1966. At the time of opening, the dam was the fifth in Europe and the ninth in the world. between similar constructions. The concrete dam has a double curve with a height of 166 meters, a length of 307 meters, being crossed by nine interior horizontal galleries where measuring and control devices are located. It is a slim construction that has 6 meters thick at the top and 25 meters at the base, is ancored on the slopes of the mountains Pleasa and Vidraru.


The lake has a total water volume of 465 million cubic meters, an area of 870 hectares, a length of 14 kilometers, a circumference of 28 km, and the water depth is 155 m near the dam.


The National Road 7C (Transfăgărășanul) connects Transylvania with Muntenia, old regions of the country, crosses the highest mountain chain in Romania, the Făgăraș Mountains, reaching a maximum altitude of 2042 meters at Bâlea Lac. The works for the road started in March 1970, the official opening took place in September 1974. The lodge is 5 km from the entrance in the Argeș gorge, the starting point of the spectacular Transfagarasan route.

Poienari Fortress (15th century)

It is located 5 km from the Lodge, on the top of the Cetatuia mountain at the entrance to Arges gorge, and in order to reach it, a route with 1480 steps must be crossed, up to the altitude of 850 m. The fortress is attributed by tradition to the ruler Vlad Tepes and was raised as a place of refuge.

The Monastery of Curtea de Arges (16th century)

The episcopal cathedral, one of the most famous architectural monuments in the Romanian Country, was built between 1515-1517 by Neagoe Basarab. During the reign of King Carol I, the cathedral was transformed into a necropolis for the royal family of Romania. Apart from the royal tombs, at the Curtea de Arges Monastery there are also the relics of Saint Filofteia.

Monastery of Curtea de Argeș is located at a distance of 20 km from the Lodge, in the city of Curtea de Arges.



The Royal Church (14th century)

Its construction began in the time of Basarab I and completed in 1352, in the time of Nicolae Alexandru, wit the destination of a cult building and a burial place for rulers. It is one of the most representative monuments of the medieval Romanian architecture, being the oldest voivodal complex in the Romanian Country. The architecture of the church is of Byzantine type, the plan of the church belongs to the type "Greek inscribed cross", the Constantinopolitan version, ending with three apses at the east.

The Royal Church is located at a distance of 23 km from the Pension, in the city of Curtea de Arges.



The Fountain of Manole the Mason

The fountain is located in the park with the same name, on Heroes Boulevard. Legend says that it shows the place where the mason Manole, the clever builder, died, who, in order not to make a church as beautiful as Curtea de Mrges , Neagoe Voda left them on the roof with the other "nine great craftsmen, calfs and masons", ordering the scaffolding to be torn down. Manole with his wood wings, took off from the roof of the church and where it felt, because the attempt was unsuccessful, a spring came out with clear water, on which the well was built today.



Curtea de Arges Municipal Museum

Curtea de Arges Municipal Museum is located near the Royal Church, in the center of the city, in a historical monument building, dating from 1896, the exhibits found here reveal the centuries-old history of the first capital of the Romanian Country - Curtea de Arges.



Olari Church (17th century)

The Olari church it is dedicated to Virgin Mary and was built, according to the piety from 1869, in 1300. In 1687 the church was restored by the monastery Salomia, being restored and painted in 1869. The church of the potters is unique in this part of the country through presentation of death on the east wall of the church.
